Why SMBs Hire Marketing Agencies

According to a survey by inTandem, the top marketing tasks outsourced by SMBs are social media management, email marketing, and paid search advertising.

About 52% of SMB owners outsource some of their marketing, but this number has decreased from 70% in 2023. Churn rates for outsourced marketing services are high, with 40% of SMBs switching agencies within 6-12 months.

The marketing services with the highest churn rates for SMBs are social media management, paid search advertising, and web development. The report was based on a survey of 500 SMB owners in the US conducted in April 2025.
