Using Product Management to Bring a Strategic View to Data and AI Ops

Early wins in data and AI are nice, but scaling across the enterprise requires a different approach. Bright spots are beginning to emerge as organizations take advantage of the transformative capabilities of data and AI. To maximize these investments, product management principles should be applied. These principles provide a strategic lens into the business, connect teams in ways that cut across organizational boundaries, and facilitate a consistent and standard prioritization mechanism.

Organizations should use the Boston Consulting Group growth-share matrix to plot data and AI products and invest in a product catalog with supporting road maps. Establishing a product management training plan and using the internal product suite as an incubator for external data products will help take advantage of opportunities to monetize data and AI products.

Product management has been used for decades in successful brands and will continue to do so. Following the core tenets of product management can help organizations maximize their investments and achieve greater returns on their investments.
