In a study using Datos clickstream data, SparkToro found that only 36% of US Google searches lead to clicks on the open web.
In Europe, the proportion is slightly higher at 37.4%. However, Google-owned properties, such as YouTube, account for a significant portion of clicks.
Over time, the percentage of Google desktop searches leading to the open web has decreased while those leading to Google-owned properties have increased.
