The Average Tenure of CMOs at Big Companies

Spencer Stuart looked at 320 Fortune 500 and 100 Ad Age Leading National Advertiser CMOs to find the average tenure of CMOs is 4.2 years, similar to the rest of the C-suite.

47% of Fortune 500 CMOs are women, 14% are from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups, and 54% were promoted from within.

The report is based on analysis of the 320 named CMOs on the Fortune 500 and Ad Age Leading National Advertisers list.
