The Social Media Platforms Used Most by Journalists

Twitter is the go-to social network for journalists, however, according to recent research from the Pew Research Center, it is not the top platform that the public turns to for news. Among US adults, Facebook is the most widely used social platform for news. Twitter is used more by younger journalists, and Instagram is also more popular with younger journalists compared with older journalists.

The social media platforms that journalists use most often for work vary depending on the type of news organization they work for. For example, journalists who work for organizations that started in television news are much more likely to list Facebook as one of their most commonly used social media platforms compared with journalists who work for online organizations.

The report was based on a survey conducted in February and March 2022, among 11,889 US-based journalists as well as data from two nationally representative surveys of US adults.
