How Much Time Do People Typically Spend Looking at an Email?

Research from Litmus has found that the average amount of time people spend reading an individual email has declined from 13.4 seconds in 2018 to 9 seconds in 2022.

The researchers found that 30% of emails are looked at for less than two seconds, 41% are looked at for 2-8 seconds, and only 29% are looked at for more than 8 seconds. Between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., local time, is the most popular time for opening emails in countries like Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, the UK and the US.

The report was based on an analysis of Litmus data from billions of email opens between August 2021 and August 2022.
