Email Subject Line Benchmarks for Common Tactics and Words
Email Marketing — Tue., Jun. 14, 2022
GetResponse examined nearly 7 billion emails sent by its customers in 2021 to understand how personalization, emojis, and common words impact email subject line performance. Research found that emails with personalized elements tend to underperform nonpersonalized emails on average. Emails with emojis have a lower average open rate and clickthrough rate than those without. Common words such as "video" and "free" have a mixed impact on performance.
The analysis was limited to active senders with more than 1,000 contacts. For visuals, GetResponse provided graphs of the performance of emails with personalized elements, emojis, and common words. In conclusion, marketers should carefully consider their use of personalization, emojis, and common words in order to maximize email subject line success.
