Why People Delete Apps From Their Phones

Airship surveyed 11,000 people to understand why people delete apps from their mobile phones. The top reasons cited were to free up storage and due to too many in-app ads. 17% of people decide whether or not to delete an app after the first use, 40% after a couple of uses, and 16% within a week or two. The top motivators for continuing to use apps from their favorite brands were ease of use, simplifying their lives, and saving time.

32% of respondents cited freeing up phone storage as a motivation for deleting apps, while 30% said too many in-app ads was a reason. The survey found that 17% of people usually decide whether or not to delete an app after the first use, 40% after a couple of uses, and 16% within a week or two. The top motivators for continuing to use apps from their favorite brands were easy to use (35%), simplifying their lives (31%), and saving time (27%).

Airship surveyed 11,000 people age 18 and older in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States to understand why people delete apps from their mobile phones and how long it takes them to make the decision. The survey found that freeing up storage and too many in-app ads were the top reasons to delete, while ease of use, simplifying lives, and saving time were the top motivators for continued use.
